The Black EP review - Andy Roberts, Dead Press
“Leeds’ own Brawlers are back with an epic slice of fried gold in the form of a bite-sized, five-track EP. Following on from their stellar debut album, ‘Romantic Errors Of Our Youth’, the pop-rock quartet have continued their with their awesome streak of upbeat and urgent music.
Like pouring a Jägerbomb in your ear, this gets straight to the point and will have you running around the room, flailing your arms like a rabid monkey on fire. From the blistering ‘Day Job’ to the sobering yet frivolous ‘Better Looking’, there is no lull. NO LULL! With a dash of refreshing, frank and honest lyrics here, a pinch of indie quirks there, and a literal fuck-tonne of organic, invigorating DIY punk, their sound is, simply put, fucking delicious.
Brawlers are leaping straight out of the underground and kicking the mainstream square in the teeth . ‘The Black EP’ is a top-down, tops-off, summery collection of anthems that’s perfect for festivals, and just as catchy as the STIs that are lurking in the camp sites.
It’s impossible to not like this EP, not sing along, and not instantly crank up the volume as soon as the first chorus graces your speakers.”

Hollowstar began life in St Ives, Cambridgeshire in early 2015 after vocalist/bassist Joe Bonson, guitarist Phil Haines and drummer Jack Bonson, reunited once more to pursue their love of music. They sought the talent of experienced guitarist Tom Collett, who gelled well due to a shared appreciation for musical influences including Alter Bridge, Black Stone Cherry, Thunder and Slash. Quickly gaining traction since their debut gig, the four haven’t looked back since.
Hot off the heels of an exciting first year which saw them performing at venues throughout the UK, the band are enjoying regular national airplay of their debut E.P, with the title track ‘Future City’ holding the number one spot in the NMG Unsigned Chart for multiple weeks. Now dividing their time between stage and studio as they make preparations for their first album, Hollowstar are quickly cementing themselves a position among the leading headline bands in the area.
